How Do I Retain These Techniques?
An interesting question that I have pondered upon and asked Coaches myself is how I can keep all the knowledge I learn from training in my head. Unfortunately, the truth of the matter is that most people can’t. It’s impossible to remember every detail of every technique you come across in Jiu Jitsu. The trick is to find a set of techniques you like and make them your own. Thanks to the internet, one of the best ways to retain a technique is to look it up on YouTube after class and save it to a playlist to go over at any time. YouTube techniques sometimes have a bad reputation because a lot of the techniques on the platform are very complicated for newer students. If you stick with only researching what you’re learning in class, you’ll be just fine. Another option is to take notes. This option is very valuable if you are out with an injury or are doing a private class and want to jot something down to go over later. In my opinion, the best way to remember a technique is to drill it until it becomes muscle memory. This is the most important step in whether you can recollect the technique in the future or forget it forever. Keep training and eventually everything will come together as it should. Oss!
