Is Flexibility Important?
Although helpful, flexibility is not as important as you think it is. There is a multitude of techniques and submissions you can do with limited flexibility. When you first start training you may find it difficult to get anything going, but with a little time and practice you’ll start to understand your body and figure out what you can do to be successful in Jiu Jitsu. Also, when you attempt moves that requires a certain amount of flexibility and can’t get them, try adjusting your angle or make a modification to your technique and see if that works. Don’t be afraid to talk to your instructor or coach for tips on how to improve your techniques. On the plus side, you can improve your flexibility overtime with general stretching or doing yoga. Don’t get discouraged and think you need to be crazy flexible to be successful in Jiu Jitsu. With enough knowledge and practice, you can achieve any goal you have in your training.
