Learning from Everyone
We’ve all got to start our Jiu Jitsu journey somewhere. When we step onto the mats we have a Professor that we all learn from, just as they learned from theirs. At Supremacy Jiu Jitsu, we have the privilege of having a fundamentals class for new students and a CAP class for the upper belts and more seasoned white belts. Joining the CAP class as a white belt among a ton of colored belts can seem like a scary jump from the all-white belt fundamentals class. I’m here to tell you that it’s actually the best thing for your Jiu Jitsu. Jump in head first and embrace all that the more advanced students have to offer. Be “a sponge” on the mats. Soak up all the information you can because the more you learn, the more experience you’ll gain. This will lead to more success on the mats and organically shape your Jiu Jitsu at the same time. Of course you are going to learn the bulk of your Jiu Jitsu from your instructor, but don’t be afraid to make friends and learn a piece here or there from the upper belts as well. This will help more than just your Jiu Jitsu because you build relationships and grow within your gym, building a stronger community overall.
A couple quick tips to help you as you transition to the CAP class:
- Slow down
- Make friends
- Have fun
- Don’t take it too seriously
- Learn, learn, LEARN
