Mental Training Tips at Home
When you practice something, you can eventually become proficient at it. Sometimes they may feel stuck or find it hard to summon the will to keep coming to class. I have a couple tips to help keep them interested and fired up to keep training. Ask your kid what his/her most important goal they want to achieve in their Jiu Jitsu journey. If they say they don’t know, try to phrase it in terms of something they want to GET. Next, try to get them to describe how they will feel when they achieve this goal. IT’s important for your child to establish an emotional connection to the goal. This will trigger serotonin in their brain because they know achieving this goal will be worthwhile when it happens. Lastly, ask them what they could do today to get closer to that goal. No matter how small, progress is progress to achieving that next level. Don’t be afraid to give them suggestions here because they may not know how to articulate how to get where they need to go at first. Using that momentum, they should be well on their way to get back in the gym fired up for the next class. Also, try this for school as well. It could help them if they are struggling in a specific subject.
