“One Weird Trick” to Success in Jiu Jitsu
We’ve all seen the ads on the internet for “One Quick Trick” to get better at something we like. Unfortunately, there is no quick trick to get better at an activity. That only comes with hard work and determination. Before you succumb to the cycle of wave riding trends, look inward to see if you can make changes internally to better yourself. Are you making it to class consistently or are you skipping weeks at a time? Are you eating right and drinking plenty of water? Are you paying attention during class? These are all factors that can improve your progress in Jiu Jitsu. Starting out small and doing the little things to improve yourself will build up the large changes you want to make. If you don’t commit to small changes, there’s no point to trying to stick to difficult ones. Come to class with a goal in mind, do some extra reps of the technique shown, drink water before class so you don’t dehydrate yourself, and keep a training journal to help you remember all of the little details. I know life is challenging all on its own with our jobs, school, kids, and bills. If you put the time in to take care of yourself in little ways, it will certainly lead to more success in bigger ways down the road.
