Overcoming Shyness: Insecure and Unconfident
I see many kids that come into the gym for the first time and not want to leave their parent’s side when it’s time for their class. That’s 100% okay! It takes a shy kid some time to warm up to new people and a new environment. The first tip I have in helping your child overcome this shyness is to let them know just that, there’s nothing wrong with being shy. Kids can get embarrassed and sink even deeper into themselves because they believe something is wrong with them just because they aren’t very outgoing. Insecurity plays a big role in your child’s development and shyness is linked to that. If a child is more secure they will be more likely to be more outgoing. A second tip is to set goals. Setting goals and rewarding them will build their confidence. Confidence is crucial for shy children. It, along with shrinking insecurities, will work wonders for your child’s mood and potential gregarious nature. A great first step is for them to come to Supremacy Jiu Jitsu and try out a class and see if it’s for them. Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is a great way for kids to build up their confidence and can be a great tool for setting goals; leading to a better and more full life.
